Y Point Orchestra: First Performance
The first IIT Bombay Orchestra was launched on 5th October 2013 in Student Alumni Meet 3.0, organised by SARC. The orchestra has been put up by the Pune chapter of IIT Bombay Alumni Association and is planning to reach greater heights in coming times.
IIT Bombay’s first alumni orchestra was launched in Student Alumni Meet 3.0. The musical evening of 5th October will remain in the minds of people who witnessed the performance by alumni from Pune Chapter. The orchestra is rich with diversity with splendid performers, who held Saxophone, Guitars, Accordion, Tabla, Bongo, Flute and you name it.
The event was hosted by Sandip Tarkas who is also a singer in the orchestra. In their first performance, YPO covered bollywood classics from 70s and 80s. The audience at PCSA remained mesmerized for entire two hours of the show as Sandip uncovered some of the secrets and cherishing memories from past. The event was justified to be named Nostalgia.
Through this event, not only the alumni chapter grows stronger than before but it is intensely inspiring and motivating for the students, by being exemplary that even after graduating from our alma-mater, one can carry and make things count that one do in college as a hobby. Anil's saxophone kept the auditorium head banging until the covers finally got over.

Nandu said “What do people who have spent the better part of their waking hours in their IIT days jamming to music do thirty years after passing out? They form an orchestra, of course. And what better name for the orchestra than “Y-Point”, of which everybody who has spent the best years of
their lives in that unique place called IITB, have nothing but fond memories. And so it came about that a few IITB alumni in Pune decided to find time from their work schedules to get together once a week and have some fun reliving old times. And as we began enjoying it more and more, we said what the heck, why not form an orchestra! There is a fairly popular doctor’s orchestra in Pune that does charity events a couple of times a year. So with all the musical talent among the alumni, we said let’s beat the docs at it.And what better place to launch the Y-Point Orchestra to show off the alumni musical talent
than the IITB campus at the student-alumni meet?” Hope to see YPO with a bigger stage next year in Student Alumni Meet 4.0.
