IIT Bombay Alumni Pittsburgh Chapter








The Revived IIT Bombay Alumni Pittsburgh Chapter was delighted to host IIT Bombay team comprising of Dean ACR - Prof.Ravi Sinha, Dean IR - Rajiv Dusane, CDO IIT Bombay - Liza Boffen & Ruyintan (Ron) Mehta - President IIT Bombay Heritage Foundation at Pittsburgh.


The IIT Team visited the Vice Provost for Research of Carnegie Mellon University in the morning to discuss possible collaboration in R&D.


Then they visited the Bioengineering Department of the University of Pittsburgh (Prof. Sanjeev Shroff the Chair is an IIT-Kanpur Alumnus and Endowed Professor Prashant Kumta, is a graduate in Material Science Department of IIT-B). Possible internship for researchers from IIT-B was discussed and follow-up contact will be made by Deans Rajiv Dusane and Ravi Sinha.


The next visit was to an aluminum foundry owned by L. P. Gupta (IIT-B Met. Eng. 1966, H-6, also Hockey Team). After an interesting tour of the plant and the surrounding 70 acres used by CMU for autonomous vehicle testing, the team departed for the networking dinner,at Taj Mahal Restaurant, 7795  McKnight Road, PA 15237 on Monday October 17 at 7 PM.


Also present at the dinner, were L.P. Gupta (Met. 66, H-6), Dady Dadyburjor (Chem. E 70, H-3 and H-4), Sid Pant, Deepak Kotwal (ME-70, H-3) and Krishna Mocherla Rao (Ch. E 70) who were among some of the past attendees at Pittsburgh affairs.

There were a number of students who rented a Zip Car and car-pooled to attend the dinner.


The Pittsburgh Chapter plans to resume get togethers and a committee is being formed to run the Chapter so as to spread the work and increase attendance through networking.
